Taillepieds is Volnay at its most focused and serious, and in the hands of Domaine Marquis d’Angerville, it’s flat-out classic Burgundy. The 2022 vintage gives this bottling a little more early charm than usual, but make no mistake—this wine is built to go the distance.

The name Taillepieds refers to the old legend that the slope was so steep it would “cut your feet”—which says a lot about the site. It’s one of the highest and rockiest in Volnay, and that translates into a wine that’s all about tension, length, and minerality. The 2022 has that signature red berry and violet perfume, but the real story is underneath: a spine of acidity and firm, chalky tannins that will unwind beautifully over the next 10–20 years.

D’Angerville doesn’t mess around in the cellar—organic farming, minimal extraction, no heavy oak—so what you taste is all vineyard, all vintage, all clarity. Taillepieds is always a little more reserved than Champans or Caillerets, but it’s also the most cerebral and complete.

Perfect for cellaring, serious Burgundy dinners, or those “I need to impress myself” kind of nights.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 94
"The 2022 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru has one of the most complex bouquets from the Domaine, very nuanced and pure with brambly red fruit, undergrowth and hints of tobacco emerging with aeration. Again, it's quite discreet and demands more coaxing than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with a beautifully balanced entry, the fruit slightly darker than other cuvées and quite saline. It gently fans out towards the finish and lingers long in the mouth. This is a more intellectual Volnay that should evolve well in bottle." -Vinous

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
