Outstanding Dry Riesling from a (Nearly) Hometown Hero, Nathan K.

Stylized image of Nathan K. Riesling
Nathan Kendall is a talented producer, and his wines seem to get better and better every year.

— Eric Asimov, the New York Times

How lucky are we to have crisp, refreshing Rieslings made right in our backyard? At their best, these wines are bursting with tropical fruit balanced by gorgeous crushed-rock notes and humming with acidity, and they can represent some of the most amazing values in American wine, period.

And Nathan Kendall, one of New York's most skillful winemakers, makes Finger Lakes Rieslings at their best. You may know him from his chëpìka project — a partnership with his friend Pascaline Lepeltier — or you may have spotted some of his well-deserved praise in the wine press over the last few years. His wines are critical darlings across the board, but this is the Finger Lakes, and it's his "green label" Riesling above all that delivers such incredible QPR we just have to have it on our shelves and in our fridges as often as we can get it.

The fruit for this cuvée is sourced from three vineyards on Seneca Lake with vine ages ranging 20-40 years. It's fermented with native yeast in a combination of neutral French oak and stainless steel, then aged on its lees until bottling the following summer. The oak maturation lends breadth and open, generous fruit on the palate while the stainless steel accentuates the bracing acidity we love so much about this grape.

We're lucky to have incredible wine regions right here in New York State, to be sure, but we're doubly lucky that world-class talents like Nathan think this place is special, too. Grab this classy, expertly made dry Riesling today and you may find yourself googling rentals on Seneca Lake this fall, because it tastes like a moment of total serenity by a shimmering, glacial lake, bathed in afternoon sun.
