Blanchots-Dessus is as close as it gets to Montrachet without saying Grand Cru on the label—and Morey-Coffinet’s 2023 bottling captures all the quiet grandeur of the site. Situated just downhill from Le Montrachet itself, this limestone-rich vineyard produces Chardonnay of depth, structure, and extraordinary finesse.

In 2023, the wine is beautifully balanced: lemon oil, white peach, and toasted almond meet a core of chalky minerality and cool tension, wrapped in a sleek, silky texture. It’s fermented and aged in French oak (with a light touch of new wood), giving the wine polish without overshadowing its natural clarity.

"The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanchot-Dessus 1er Cru comprises just one and a half (new) 350-liter barrels. I have to say that that dominates the aromatics just as it did last year, so it is impossible to really gauge the terroir. The palate is ripe, rounded and inevitably quite oaky. This is one cuvée where I would just refill one of the previous year's new barrels, as I believe that would be more proportional to the fruit concentration." -Neal Martin
