A mature bottle from the vintage where Christophe Perrot-Minot's new direction became obvious. He took over the family domaine in 1993 after seven years as a wine broker, and around 2001 began pulling the wines toward finesse — severe yield control at roughly 25 to 30 hectoliters per hectare, a large share of whole clusters, and no more than 20% new oak — a shift that first showed clearly in 2005 and 2006. 2005 itself was a drought year in Burgundy: thick skins, deep fruit and firm tannin wrapped in unusual richness, and the wines have needed most of the two decades since. This village Vosne-Romanée comes from a private cellar and is drinking now, the primary fruit having given way to forest floor, game and sweet earth. Decant it and enjoy it over the next few years rather than laying it down further.
