From a 13-generation Sancerre family working in Sury-en-Vaux, this is one of the great-value Sauvignons of the upper Loire. Coteaux du Giennois lies just north of Sancerre along the river, on clay-siliceous soils over a limestone base — terroir close in spirit to its more famous neighbor but at a fraction of the cost. Sonia Raimbault and her children make this in stainless steel at cool temperatures with aging on fine lees, a textbook approach that preserves both fruit and minerality. First produced in 1991, the wine has become a benchmark for the appellation: crisp, aromatic, citrus-driven, with a saline cut and just enough texture to take it to the dinner table.
