Domaine Trapet Père et Fils, best known for their exceptional Gevrey-Chambertins, brings the same meticulous care to this Côte de Nuits-Villages bottling. Meix Fringuet comes from a well-situated parcel just outside the more famous crus, offering remarkable finesse and purity for its level. The 2022 vintage, with its balance of ripe fruit and fresh acidity, makes this an especially charming and accessible expression of Côte de Nuits terroir.

Red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry lead, accented by subtle floral notes, soft spice, and a touch of forest floor. The tannins are refined yet structured, giving the wine lift and elegance without heaviness. While it’s already drinking beautifully, a few years in the cellar will bring out even more nuance. Perfect with roast chicken, charcuterie, or a quiet evening dedicated to exploring Burgundy’s hidden treasures.

Domaine Trapet is not exactly a new name in Burgundy. They've been growing grapes in Gevrey-Chambertin since the 1800s, and have amazing parcels in all the best vineyards, up to and including Le Chambertin. Back in the day, they sold their best grapes to the likes of Domaine Drouhin and Maison Leroy.

But since the 1960s, they've been bottling their own wines. The style has fluctuated a bit, as styles have varied with the generations. Today the domaine is run by Jean-Louis Trapet, whose style can best be summarized as a laser-like focus on making delicious Pinot Noir.

Here are the technicalities of that: light extraction (a touch of bâtonnage or punching down at the beginning of fermentation, but just remontage—pumping over—after that), very little new oak, and whole-cluster when the grapes are ideally healthy (which is quite often, as the farming is biodynamic).

This sounds like what many of Burgundy's best are doing today. But in one area Trapet departs: while "reductive" wine-making is all the rage (limiting the wine's exposure to oxygen), Trapet likes to make his wines open and accessible from release, including by using as little sulfur as possible in the process. That's how he makes his Pinot Noir so delicious!

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
