The Oberhäuser Leistenberg is the oldest vineyard held by Dönnhoff, farmed for generations on slate soils that create fruity wines with elegant acidity. The 2024 Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett continues this tradition—slight sweetness and lower alcohol typical of Kabinett style.

At two years old, the wine shows young vibrancy and primary fruit character. The slate soils create the kind of mineral definition that makes Nahe distinctive, while the Kabinett style provides refreshment and slight sweetness. This is a wine for those rediscovering the Kabinett category—often overlooked in favor of dry Trocken wines, the Kabinett style offers balance between fruit ripeness and acidity that deserves appreciation. The Oberhäuser Leistenberg's family history and slate soils create a wine of genuine character and tradition. The longest-held vineyard shows fruit concentration and complexity despite the light Kabinett style. Perfect for those seeking balanced, refreshing German Riesling.

"The 2024 Riesling Oberhäuser Brücke Spätlese is the only separately made wine from the domaine in this year of frost. Sandstone, shale, volcanic formations, loess and loam soils meet on this site that is cool at night but close to the river. Very often, this area is picked last. There was no botrytized grapes included here. The nose is all citric lift, with a beautifully pristine touch of lemon oil. The palate is smooth, rounded and framed by zest. Svelteness, tenderness and concentration unite to form a soothing vision. The finish is a lasting picture of weightless elegance." —Anne Krebiehl, MW

Fruity with elegant acidity from slate soils, slight sweetness from Kabinett style. Light to medium-bodied, fresh, with delicate balance between ripeness and acidity. The Leistenberg site creates Riesling with fruity character and mineral refinement—a beautiful expression of the Kabinett style.

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
