This 2024 dry Riesling from the Schlossböckelheim vineyard represents another expression of Dönnhoff's commitment to single-vineyard terroir distinctiveness. The Schlossböckelheimer site is part of Dönnhoff's Grosses Gewächs portfolio, noted for its distinctive slate (Tonschiefer = slate rock) terroir. The 2024 shows the fresh mineral character that slate-rooted Rieslings deliver: citrus, green apple, and slate minerality with bright acidity. At just-released, the wine is vibrant and focused, ready to drink now with food or age for 7-9 years as complexity develops. Dönnhoff's traditional approach—natural fermentation, no filtration—preserves the wine's full character and mineral expression.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 92
"The 2024 Riesling Schlossböckelheimer is from all of the Grosse Gewächs sites, representing the volcanic soils of the Nahe. It is a village wine made to stand against the village wine from Bürklin Wolf in Wachenheim and Westhofen. All three village wines were hand harvested, crushed slightly, pressed at low pressure within two hours, sedimented overnight and fermented in Doppelstück. A pure, bright note of lemon is foremost on the nose, signalling purity. This is followed by a reductive flintiness while the body is a streak of lemon zest. It is linear, slender, stony and sylph-like, yet so long. This is absolutely svelte, light and vivid." -Anne Krebiehl, MW

"The 2024 Schlossböckelheimer Riesling trocken VDP.Ortswein already combines intensity and complexity with purity, elegance, finesse and salinity on the nose that is almost floral, fragrant as it is. Very refined and very elegant on the pristine palate, this is an intense, long and complex yet soaring Riesling from the Felsenberg grand cru. The finish is long, intense and reminiscent of melting (porphyry) rocks, saline and crystalline as it is. The 2024 is powerful in terms of intensity and complexity but also elegant, finessed and pure, provided with a seamless texture and a long, aromatic finish. It's a classic to be enjoyed after a while in bottle. 12% stated alcohol." -Stephan Reinhardt

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
