Latricières-Chambertin is often called the most understated of Gevrey’s Grand Crus—cooler, more mineral, and deeply refined—and in the hands of Duroché, it becomes something truly riveting. The 2022 vintage brings a whisper of warmth, but the wine remains taut and chiseled, all about structure, aromatics, and quiet depth.

The nose is delicate and layered—wild raspberry, crushed rose, tea leaf, and cool stone—with the kind of detail that keeps unfolding over time. On the palate, it’s linear and focused, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a long, savory, mineral finish that lingers with grace. There’s none of the brawn of Chambertin or Clos de Bèze here—this is Burgundy for the purist.

Duroché works with minimal extraction, native yeasts, and limited new oak, making this one of the most transparent expressions of Grand Cru Gevrey you’ll find. It’s precise and contemplative, and while it can be appreciated young with air, it’s built for the long haul—15+ years if you’re patient.

Pair it with dishes that match its finesse: duck breast, mushroom risotto, or just a quiet evening and a Burgundy glass worthy of the pour.

"The 2022 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru will be labelled Cuvée Mariette this vintage in remembrance of Duroché's mother, who passed this year and purchased the original parcel. It has a typical nose from this vineyard with dark berry fruit and light sandstone aromas, earthy yet detailed. The medium-bodied palate offers bright red cherries, mulberry and blueberry on the entry. Quite a sweet core on this Latricières, with a dash of pepper emanating from the 15% whole bunches on the finish. Excellent." —Vinous

"The 2022 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is another cuvée that nips at the heels of its 2020 counterpart. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plum and rose petals mingled with notions of incense and exotic spices, it's full-bodied, deep and seamless, with a cool core of fleshy fruit, lively acids and velvety tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed, penetrating finish. Pierre Duroché has produced another superlative set of wines in 2022. While yields are down after hail struck the Combe Lavaux and the Brochon side of Gevrey-Chambertin, quality is undimmed, the vintage lending itself to the domaine's understated, delicate style. As I've written before, Duroché has been experimenting with "tressage,"—rolling vines' canopies instead of trimming them—and to that end, he's pragmatically raising stakes and trellising wires, so he has the option to hedge in a rainy, disease-prone vintage (such as 2021!) but can also opt not to in sunny, warm years. In the cellar, new oak continues to make a minimal contribution, but the historic emphasis on Tonnellerie Cadus has diminished to avoid any one cooper defining the domaine style. Vinifications continue to be rather delicate, with comparatively short macerations and little in the way of pigéage. Fully renovated winery facilities, complete with a battery of made-to-measure stainless steel tanks, facilitate precision vinification."

"The Latricières from Duroché has more density and power than many of the Gevrey offerings; it is decidedly more tannic than the Griotte. The 'silky, lovely' side is still here, but this is powerful and long with abundant black plum and mulberry fruit aromas coloured with spice, peony and liquorice notes. It is impressive for its length and balance – it is plump with fruit yet balanced by structure and freshness. The grapes come from a quarter-hectare parcel that the domaine purchased in 1989; it was the favourite cuvée of the family matriarch, for whom it is named."

Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre run eight hectares of Gevrey-Chambertin, spanning village, premier cru, and grand cru levels across the appellation's finest sites. Hand-harvested, minimal oak—wines made to let the grapes reveal their purest form. Pierre is the fifth generation to work the vines here, taking over from his father in 2007. Fourth and fifth generation Burgundy, made with the kind of attention to detail that separates the serious from the pretenders.
