This is one of the legends. La Mouline is the first of Guigal's three fabled 'La-La's', the single-vineyard Cote-Roties that redefined how great this corner of the Northern Rhone could be. It comes from the Cote Blonde, from old vines pushing 75 years, where Syrah is co-fermented with roughly eleven percent Viognier and aged some three and a half years in new oak. That Viognier is the secret to its character: it's the most perfumed and silken of the trio, all violets and peaches and cassis where its siblings lean dark and powerful. This is a 1997, mature and singing, a genuine trophy for the table or the occasion.
