Envinate are among the most beloved natural-wine producers in the world, four wine-school friends who set out to make fully alive, terroir-driven wines from forgotten Spanish corners. Migan comes from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, farmed on ancient ungrafted vines, and Chingao is the wilder, more exploratory bottling in the range. Expect everything we love about Envinate: pretty, energetic fruit, an entrancing nose, and that crunchy, savory volcanic snap, all made with whole clusters, wild yeast, and a barely-there hand in the cellar. Wine, first and foremost, is about pleasure, and Envinate never forget it.

"2023 was a year of concentration in Orotava, and the wines have more color and density. The 2023 Migan Chingao was produced with Listán Negro grapes from cordón trenzado braided ancient vines from a 1.4-hectare vineyard called La Habanera in the Valle de la Orotava at 550 to 600 meters in altitude on bland basalt soils and a north-facing exposition. The grapes from Tío Luis are a little lower in altitude (500 to 550 meters) and also north-facing. They harvested very early that year. The vines didn't get blocked, but the ripeness was heterogeneous. It feels more tannic and concentrated than the regular Migan (which was not bottled and was partly in oak). It seems to have good aging potential. It's clean and precise, concentrated but without over-ripeness. It has 12.5% alcohol. 672 bottles produced. This was bottled in June 2024 from the concrete vat where it matured." —Luis Gutiérrez

More about Envinate

Just a couple of years ago the wines of Envinate were very, very off the radar. Like everything in the world of delicious, naturally made wines, that has changed! Now we eagerly anticipate the next release, get just a case or less of each cuvée, and then watch them disappear in the blink of an eye.

For those unfamiliar, the group of four friends behind the project have nailed a locals' perspective on growing areas that the world is just coming to appreciate. Between Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands, they bottle clear expressions of the vineyards with which they work. Having started Envinate as a consultancy while in enology school, the friends set out to enrich the communities within these historically neglected areas. By splitting up and living in each of these regions, they have been able to foster relationships with older generations of growers and farmers allowing them to identify the best vineyard sites with a collective understanding beyond their experience.

With a strong technical education, The Four craft wines of precision and clarity. Never manipulated, never doctored, and a lack of chemicals in the vineyard, these wines are liquid art, a purists expression of terrior. They honor not only the region from which they come, but also the local stewards who have cared for these vineyards, often for generations.
