From the storied Hermitage appellation's warmest and most generous vineyard, this is 100% old-vine Syrah grown on steep granite hillsides. A generous wine of remarkable depth, it shows dark fruit, powerful spice, herbal notes, and blackberry preserves. The 1999 vintage exemplifies Le Méal's power and complexity. Ferraton produces fewer than 200 cases annually, making this a true rarity that will continue evolving over 10-20+ years.

Robert Parker

88 points

"While disappointing prior to bottling, the 1999 Hermitage Le Meal is close to outstanding. Although closed, with coaxing it displays a saturated ruby color as well as a striking perfume of creme de cassis intermixed with minerals. The wine possesses excellent concentration and moderately high tannin. It is significantly better than my notes last year suggested. However, patience will be essential." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.
