Here's a story: 'Lost Row' is exactly one row of Syrah — about 120 vines — in the Stags Leap District, planted in 1994 from cuttings of old-vine Shiraz brought over from Australia's Barossa Valley. Before Fine Disregard claimed it, the fruit just got fermented in with the surrounding rows. Mike Schieffelin and Kara Marden bottle it on its own now, in their minimalist, native-yeast style. The result is about as bright and food-friendly a Syrah as Napa makes, built on lift and freshness rather than weight. Decant it; this one takes time to unfold.
