A single-vineyard snapshot from one of Forge's most northerly Seneca Lake sites. Forge Cellars is the Finger Lakes project of Louis Barruol — the Rhône vigneron behind Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas — together with Justin Boyette and Richard Rainey. Since debuting in 2011 they have become the reference point for bone-dry, terroir-driven Riesling on Seneca's east side, working with a dozen-plus specific vineyards over clay, limestone, and shale. The Willow Vineyard sits at the cooler northern end, lending an exuberance and lift you do not always find further south. With three additional years in bottle, the 2022 has begun to integrate that nervy youthful citrus into something more savory and complex — still mineral-driven and bone-dry, but with a deeper register opening underneath.

Perfect Pairings

Crab cakes, lemony scallops, sushi, fried chicken with hot honey, Alsatian onion tart, or roast pork with mustard and apple. The wine's tension and dryness make it a smarter sub for white Burgundy than most people expect.

Tasting Profile

Pale straw with a green tint. Meyer lemon, green apple, white peach, wet stone, and an emerging note of beeswax. Bone-dry, racy acidity, a stony, almost salty mid-palate, and a long mineral-driven finish.
