Grower Champagne with serious old-school character. The Minière family has farmed in Hermonville (Massif de Saint-Thierry, north of Reims) since 1919, and brothers Frédéric and Rodolphe — the fourth generation — work organically and vinify entirely in oak with no malolactic fermentation. Influence is their flagship cuvée: roughly 40% Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, with about 15% reserve wines from a barrel solera. The current release rests largely on a base 2020 vintage and undergoes extended bottle aging on the lees before disgorgement at a low 5 g/L dosage. The result is bold and chiseled: citrus oil and dried orchard fruit, a hint of cocoa, chalky minerality, and a long, frank finish. A grower bottle that punches well above its weight.

Robert Parker

92+ points

"Blending three lieux-dits and three grape varieties—Les Couturelles (Pinot Meunier), Les Fosselles (Pinot Noir) and Les Fontenelles (Chardonnay)—Minière’s latest NV Brut Influence is based on the 2020 vintage with 22% reserve wines from 2019. Disgorged with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter in September 2024, this wine offers a vibrant bouquet of sweet citrus fruits, apricot, yellow apple and a hint of coconut. Full-bodied and more powerful than both Brut Zéro and Blanc Absolu, it features a layered mid-palate, a generous core of fruit and tangy acidity, concluding with a long, mineral finish." —Kristaps Karklins

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken, mushroom tart, gougères, aged Comté, oysters Rockefeller, or a charcuterie board with hard salami. Versatile enough to start the meal as an aperitif or carry it all the way through.

Tasting Profile

Citrus oil, baked apple, brioche, toasted hazelnut, a hint of cocoa, and chalky minerality on the nose. Medium-bodied with a fine bead, dry, with a long, mineral-driven finish.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
