Francesco Rinaldi’s 2013 Cannubi is a textbook example of why this historic vineyard is so revered. Located on a gentle slope at the heart of the Barolo commune, Cannubi combines elegance, aromatic lift, and subtle power, especially when handled by a producer with a steady, traditional hand like Rinaldi.

The 2013 vintage is a classic—cool, long, and perfectly balanced—and in this wine, it delivers a beautifully layered Barolo: red cherry, dried rose, anise, and earthy spice, with fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral-lined finish. There’s a bit of restraint here, but it unfolds gracefully with time in the glass.

Aged in large Slavonian oak botti and fermented naturally, the style is firmly traditional: no flashy oak, no over-extraction—just Nebbiolo, place, and patience. And in magnum, it’s built for even slower evolution and even more expressive depth over time.

Drink now with a long decant, or cellar for another 10–20 years if you want to watch the floral and savory complexity stretch out. Perfect with braised meats, mushroom risotto, or just a long evening and good company.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The 2013 Barolo Cannubi is unusually deep and powerful, both of which bode very well for the future, but make the wine forbidding in the early going. Not that readers should be too concerned with drinking these wines young in the first place though. Firm tannins enshroud a core of expressive fruit in a Barolo that is going to need time to fully emerge. Even so, the Cannubi is super-impressive today." -Vinous

"New leather, pressed rose, violet, baking spice and crushed herb are just some of the aromas you'll find in this textbook Barolo. Firm yet loaded with finesse, the palate offers red cherry, strawberry compote, cinnamon and clove notes set against a backdrop of youthfully austere tannins and bright acidity. A licorice note lingers on the finish. Give it time to fully bloom."
