A half-hectare of Nebbiolo in Giachini, one of the crus of Annunziata — the same corner of La Morra as Rocche dell'Annunziata, just a little lower down the hill at 270 meters, southeast-facing on calcareous clay. Carlo and Enzo Revello learned their trade from Elio Altare and Beppe Caviola, and it shows in the cellar: a short, intense maceration in rotofermenters, then two years in French barriques, a portion of them new. That approach can read as flashy when the wine is young, but 2008 was a long, cool, classically proportioned Piedmont vintage of thick skins, real tannin and the acidity to carry both, and eighteen years have folded the oak completely into the fruit. From a private cellar, in a lovely spot now with road still ahead of it. Stand it upright for a day and decant it an hour before dinner.
