Gaspard Brochet's first vintage-dated cuvee — and he sat on it for the better part of a decade before letting it go. Gaspard farms just over three hectares around Ecueil in the Montagne de Reims, land his family worked under the Vincent Brochet name before he took it over and began signing his own bottles in 2017; for this wine he reaches back and uses the historic name of the family house, Domaine les Croix. It's built on the excellent 2016 vintage and given a very long rest on the lees, and the extra time shows: ripe yellow fruit and dried fruit, candied citrus, brioche and fine pastry, with the toast and spice that only years in the cellar can put there. The palate is broad and creamy, with real depth, and the extra brut finish keeps it honest. This is the bottle where a young grower shows you what he's actually aiming at.

Gaspard was born in 1995, grew up in wine (his dad made it under the Vincent Brochet label), left to do graphic design, came back in 2013. Took over 3.18 hectares in Ecueil in 2019 and went immediately biodynamic. No-addition winemaking in barrels from Germany, Burgundy, and family reserves. Young, precise, uncompromising.
