From the highest cru of Barolo at 400-480 meters, G.D. Vajra's Bricco delle Viole is a wine of profound depth and ethereal grace. The vineyard's name—Hill of Violets—speaks to its south-facing exposure and early-blooming flowers; vines planted in 1931 and 1949 anchor this expression. The 2019 reveals itself as a Burgundian-elegant red with gorgeous fresh rose perfume, dark potency tempered by fine, present tannins, and remarkable length. Powerful yet reticent now, this will unfold gorgeously over decades.

More about G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
