A premier cru that only became one in 1987, and Barthod owns the entire promoted parcel. Her 0.37-hectare sliver of Les Veroilles sits high on the slope immediately above Bonnes-Mares; when the classification was revisited, that piece alone was elevated while the rest of the Veroilles climat stayed village Chambolle, which makes this an effective monopole at premier cru level. It is also the most reserved wine in her cellar, deeper-pitched and stricter in its minerality than the exuberant Fuees, and it takes longer to open up. 2013 fits it well: a cold, wet spring halved the crop and drove harvest into October, producing wines with light tannins, high-toned fruit and real cut. Partial destemming, native yeasts and about twenty months in barrel, as with every parcel here. From a private cellar; give it a long decant now, or hold another five years.

Antonio Galloni

93 points

"Bright medium red. Vibrant nose offers dark fruits, menthol and smoky minerality. Silky and thick but with outstanding intensity and almost painful energy to its flavors of raspberry, crushed rock and mint lifted by a treble note of blood orange. Youthfully reticent but impressively dense, conveying sappy energy without any tart edges. Has the strength of material to fully enrobe its firm, ripe tannins. Wonderful energy and extract here." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

94 points

"From the domaine’s 60-year-old vines, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Véroilles has a not dissimilar bouquet to the les Fuées, the mineral core tangible on the nose and lending it stupendous transparency and definition. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite tensile tannins. There is a sorbet-like freshness, a sense of energy in this les Véroilles with biting orange rind notes on the finish. Bon vin!" —Neal Martin
