A magnum of one of the rarest and most coveted Rinaldi bottlings ever made. From the late 1960s until 1990, Battista Rinaldi separated a parcel of his Brunate holding to bottle a top-tier Riserva 'Selezione Brunata' only in the greatest vintages. 1989 was one of the last (Battista died in 1992) and is widely regarded as one of the legendary classical Piedmont vintages of the modern era, paired here with one of the legendary bottlings of that era. Thirty-six years on and in magnum, this is Battista-era Rinaldi at the absolute peak of his work, in the format that gives it slow, regal life. A museum piece of cult traditional Barolo.

More about Giuseppe Rinaldi

In a region obsessed with single-vineyard expressions, Giuseppe Rinaldi remains a traditionalist purist: he blends fruit from multiple Barolo sites to capture the soul of the appellation, not the plot. Fermented with natural yeasts in his father's ancient oak tini for a month, with no temperature control, then aged in old botti for three and a half years, his Barolos are powerful, hauntingly perfumed monuments to time-honored craft.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast capon stuffed with chestnuts and truffle, brasato al Barolo with polenta, or aged Bra Duro. Wines of this stature ask for a long table and quiet attention.

Tasting Profile

Classical-vintage maturity at its peak: dried rose, sweet sour cherry, tar, leather, dried porcini, balsamic herbs and white truffle. Layered, mineral, with tannins fully resolved into silk and a finish that holds for minutes.
