At Hope Well, farming is more than organic—it’s a living system. Mimi Casteel, daughter of the Bethel Heights legacy and a leading voice in regenerative viticulture, has transformed her Eola-Amity Hills estate into a model of biodiversity, soil health, and carbon-positive winegrowing. Her wines are deeply site-expressive and handled with extreme care, both in the vineyard and the cellar.

The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir is a direct expression of that philosophy. Made with native yeasts, whole cluster fermentation, and minimal sulfur, the wine is bright and perfumed: wild strawberry, cherry skin, and forest floor, with notes of rose petal and spice. The texture is sleek and alive, framed by fresh acidity and a gentle mineral core shaped by the site's volcanic and marine sediment soils.

Unlike many richer Willamette Pinots, Hope Well leans into restraint and nuance—this is Pinot for lovers of Volnay, Arbois, or early Eyrie. No new oak, no extraction—just precision, vitality, and a quiet depth that rewards attention.

Best enjoyed with herb-roasted poultry, mushroom risotto, or lentils and root vegetables, and worth cellaring for a few years to let its savory layers deepen.

More about Hope Well

Hope Well is Mimi Casteel's love letter to regenerative viticulture. She's not interested in shortcuts—100% Pommard clone, natural yeasts, whole-cluster fermentation, zero irrigation, zero tilling. A forester's daughter raising Pinot Noir in the Eola-Amity Hills with the kind of discipline that comes from actually giving a damn about soil, biodiversity, and what happens after the bottle gets drunk.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VineyardThe Hope Well vineyard sits perchered on a ridge in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley. Hope Well is a beautiful place where Mimi Casteel lives and works. It is where her children run with bare feet, where lush swaths of native habitat are the architectural foundation of a rich, textural landscape. It is where the roots of grapevines stretch and mingle with the roots of a full and diverse ground cover, twining, sharing and passing on the great secrets of a place in time through miles of silvery, tubular threads of mycorrhizal fungi. It is a place where human animals labor with sheep, llamas, alpacas and goats to do the true good work of careful stewardship and humble attendance.OrientationEast facingSoilVolcanic (Jory) on Terrace, Ancient Marine Sediment on slopesViticultureThe Hope Well vineyard is meticulously farmed using 100% natural, organic and biodynamic methods. A chemical free environment that employs regenerative farming is important to create a place that thrives with biodiversity and well being.VinificationThe Pinot Noir came in on a cool morning and was completely destemmed, then enjoyed a few days of ambient soak before pushing a cap. Due to the concentration of the vintage, the cap management consisted primarily of gentle cap wetting and one or two pumpovers to ensure a clean fermentation before pressing at dryness. No commercial yeasts or bacteria were used. 15% whole cluster.AgingAged for 10 months in French, oak barrels with 10% being new
