The Brunel family, with viticultural roots stretching back generations in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, created the Les Cailloux label in 1954, and the 2005 Cuvée Centenaire shows why—a Grenache-based blend (80%) with Mourvèdre and Syrah that captures the garrigue-scented power of the appellation. Bold kirsch, roasted meat, and licorice aromas lead to a full-bodied, textured palate with silky tannins and blockbuster length, showing surprising accessibility for such a structured wine.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape has aged gracefully, unwinding with cured meat, melted licorice, tobacco and earthy tones. Minty nuances add more complexity. Built around resolved tannins and fresh acidity, the 2005 is such a gorgeous aged Châteauneuf that’s drinking superbly right now. I recommend enjoying it over the next three years." —Nicolas Greinacher

"One of my favorite producers, Domaine Les Cailloux’s 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape is a terrific effort that’s hard to resist today. Checking in as a blend of 70% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and the rest Cinsault, aged mostly in tank, if gives up a ripe, sexy and medium to full-bodied style to go with classic red and black raspberry fruit, garrigue, pepper and spice. Drink this beauty over the coming 4-6 years, although there’s no need to delay gratification." —Jeb Dunnuck

"This offers lots of juicy, well-structured notes of garrigue, black cherry, plum, tobacco and olive tapenade, with a smoke- and licorice-filled finish. Ample grip and minerality leaves a rock-solid impression."
