"The 2023 Vino de Pasto El Álamo-Añina comes from a historical vineyard, tosca de Barajuela in Añina, that was used in the past for the Pedro Romero Aurora wines. This same vineyard has also delivered two wines from De La Riva, a Cuatro Cortados and a Vino de Color. This wine has a lot of flor, unlike other unfortified white wines, to compensate for the heat of the year and give it finesse. This could be one of the top 10 vineyards in the whole of Jerez, with great influence from the Atlantic, with the extract from a zone of concentration and the freshness of the sea and the pungent and curry/spicy notes, which are more evident in warmer years. It makes you salivate. The palate shows the identity of the place, managing to overcome the footprint of the year. This has amazing finesse and power, with natural 14% alcohol, showing the concentration of the year and vineyard, that goes unnoticed. There are only 500 bottles of this, because they only selected one butt from the 5,000 bottles planned, because this barrel was so unique they decided to bottle it separately. The rest will be released as a different wine (maybe a Fino..) in the future. They tell me this is what in the past would have been called Amontillado Directo, one barrel in 100... When the new appellation for unfortified white wines is finally created, this wine will change its name, and it won't be Vino de Pasto. It was bottled in June 2025.
