From the man who saved Marsala—Marco de Bartoli discovered his calling in the 1970s after a career in motorsport racing and single-handedly revived Sicily's most historic wine style. Now his children continue his legacy on Etna's volcanic slopes. This 100% Nerello Mascalese from the Tenuta Solisciaro vineyard captures the elegance and mineral complexity that defines great Etna Rosso—fresh, persistent, and deeply expressive of its volcanic terroir.

More about Marco de Bartoli

Marco de Bartoli was once a professional race car driver before obsession with wine pulled him back to his family's Marsala farm in 1978. Now his three children work beside him, reviving native Sicilian grapes and restoring the good name of Marsala through fortified wines and dry whites. Vecchio Samperi is the wine that matters here—a career in a bottle.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What Bowler Wine has to say about this wine:

100% Nerello Mascalese. De Bartoli branched eastward to the north face of Mt. Etna in 2021; the estate name "Solisciaro" is a mash-up that pinpoints its location between the two villages of Solicchiata and Passopisciaro. There are 4 hectares of vines in total. The farming is currently in conversion to organics. This DOC Etna Rosso comes from two vineyards. One contains 85-year-old vines, the other 20-year-old vines, all alberello-trained and planted on sandy volcanic soils at 700-750 meters in altitude. The bunches are harvested by hand, gently pressed and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel with temperature control. The wine is aged for 10 months, with 70% of it in in steel and 30% in chestnut barrels. Production is approximately 6000 bottles.
