Grand Cras soils—alluvial and sandy—are very similar to those of Corcelette at the foot of the Côte du Py, also facing southeast. While many of Godard's wines can feel tight and locked up when young, ready for the long haul, here the sandy soils allow for softer tannins and a sun-drenched fruit bowl ready to enjoy now while you wait for the rest. Although with so much fresh-picked strawberry and blueberry, perfumed roses, bright violets, spicy incense, potted earth, and Morgon's quintessential licorice note, there's runway for further development down the road.
Grand Cras 2023 captures the joie de vivre of Beaujolais along with an ability to age in the mid-term. The effusive florals, crunchy fruit, tingling acidity, and closely knit velvety tannins melt in your mouth. Drink this one now and love your life.
