A seventeen-year-old premier cru red Burgundy that's arrived exactly where you want it. The Ecard name runs deep in Savigny-les-Beaune: Michel is the son of Maurice Ecard, one of the village's benchmark traditional growers, and he launched this domaine with Joanna in the mid-2000s working old vines the family has farmed for generations. Les Serpentieres is one of Savigny's finest premier crus, a fully south-facing slope of stony limestone marl that ripens Pinot Noir with real flesh and generosity. The 2009 vintage was warm and opulent across the Cote de Beaune, and this bottle has spent the years since softening its plush fruit into the forest-floor and savory complexity that only time delivers. Pour it now while it's singing.

"Soft and ripe, this is a broad wine. Its tannins are enveloped by the rich plum and damson fruit flavors. It combines the richness of the vintage with the softness of a Savigny in an already delicious whole." —Roger Voss
