"The 2013 Grüner Veltliner Aus den Gärten Federspiel Late Bottled was aged for 11 years on fine lees in barrel. This current release opens with the finest apple note, reminiscent of Cox Orange Pippin juice imbued with smoke and yeast. The palate is exquisitely fluid, almost chalky, completely pure and mind blowing. Freshness, concentration and vivacity abound, with all the snappy youth afforded by its long lees aging. The finish is long, leesy and superbly fresh. A lesson in wine, teaching us about the tonic of youth that is yeast and the longevity of artisanal wines." —Anne Krebiehl, MW

"The 2013 Aus den Gärten Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Late Bottled was filled in April last year, so 10 years later than the regular bottling. The wine is clear, intense and fresh on the deep and savory, mineral-scented nose that reveals subtle fruit with lots of salt and a still fresh or ageless, in any case not primary, fruity bouquet. Dense and textured on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, round, lush and refined, dense and sustainable Veltliner with a spectacular finish that is still tight and grippy, with distinctive tannins. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Archive Release 2024. Tasted in January 2025." —Stephan Reinhardt

More about Nikolaihof

Austria's oldest vineyard with almost two millennia of history. The Im Weingebirge site dates to the 5th century, when Roman soldiers occupied the Wachau. Nikolaihof has been Demeter-certified biodynamic since the 1970s—one of the first in Europe to embrace the practice. The wines are minerally, precise, and feel like touching something very old and very alive.
