Olga Raffault built her reputation on Les Picasses, one of the Loire's finest vineyards, a south-facing clay-over-limestone-tuffeau slope that grows Cabernet Franc of extraordinary depth and longevity. The family farms organically, ferments with native yeast and ages for years in old foudres, a deeply traditional approach. What sets Les Picasses apart is its ability to age for decades: this 2008 has had nearly two decades to unfold, trading primary fruit for the tobacco, earth and dried-flower complexity that only time delivers. A rare chance to drink a great Loire Cabernet Franc already at its peak.

"The 2008 Chinon Les Picasses is an authentic representative of the vintage as well as of the domain. The 2008 has a coolish, pure and spicy but concentrated nose with a Pinot-like expression of Cab Franc that comes across as pulpy but less juicy. On the palate, this is a textbook Loire Cabernet: sweet, intense and, believe me, perfectly ripe and balanced but still coolish, precise and finessed with delicate but lingering tannins combined with the sweet and salty finish. This is a gorgeous Chinon with a long and now juicy finish that reveals bitter orange flavors. This is a beautiful wine to drink now and over the next 20 years (at least). Tasted in April 2021." —Robert Parker
