One of the newest names in the Langhe, working one of Barolo's classic addresses. Philine Isabelle is a young, very small project rather than a multi-generational estate, which in a region this hidebound is itself a small act of nerve. Preda lies in the commune of Barolo proper, and like every Barolo in existence this is Nebbiolo, full stop: pale in the glass and formidable on the palate, the grape's oldest and best joke. The 2022 growing season in Piedmont was hot and dry, which tends to push ripe fruit forward without sanding down Nebbiolo's structure. Expect rose, cherry and tar riding on serious, dusty tannin. Give it a long decant now, or put it away and let it grow up.
