A purpose-built late release, drinking at peak after twenty-six years in the cellar. Potinet-Ampeau is a tiny Monthélie-based family domaine formed by the marriage of Henri Potinet to Robert Ampeau's sister (today run by fifth-generation Vincent Durrieu) — and like the legendary Robert Ampeau, the house tradition is to hold wines for many years before release, selling them only when fully mature. Long bottle aging is the entire point. The 1999 Clos des Chenes is a textbook expression of that philosophy: Clos des Chenes is one of Volnay's three most famous 1er Crus (alongside Caillerets and Champans), and 1999 was a generous, warm Burgundy vintage with plenty of stuffing to age. The wine arrives now in full bloom, requiring no further cellaring — dried red cherry, rose, autumn leaf, sweet tobacco, forest floor, leather, the silken Volnay texture fully resolved. Pure late-release Burgundy magic.
