Pyramid Valley Vineyards, Angel Flower Pinot Noir, 2020
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Pyramid Valley’s Angel Flower comes from a small, biodynamically farmed plot in North Canterbury—a cool, limestone-rich corner of New Zealand’s South Island. The name fits: this is always the more delicate, aromatic Pinot of their two estate bottlings (the other being Earth Smoke), with a focus on florals, herbs, and soft earth rather than weight or oak.
The 2020 vintage was a smooth, dry growing season, and it shows here. The wine is lifted and detailed—red fruit, dried flowers, a little spice—but there’s also texture and quiet grip beneath all that perfume. Whole bunches and wild yeasts add complexity, but never get in the way.
Pyramid Valley was founded with the idea that New Zealand could produce truly site-specific, low-intervention wines—and Angel Flower has become a benchmark for that vision. It’s a great pick for Burgundy lovers curious about the Southern Hemisphere, or anyone who likes their Pinot elegant, expressive, and a little off the beaten path.
