Blanchots represents Raveneau's most serious expression of Grand Cru authority—a wine built on the shoulders of 85-year-old vines planted on south-facing slopes where Kimmeridgian limestone dominates. Where entry-level Chablis prioritizes approachability, Blanchots builds its empire on concentration and quiet intensity. This is limestone speaking in its most eloquent voice: a palate structured by minerality that feels almost crystalline, paired with the weight and texture that justify Grand Cru status. The 2023 vintage, despite its challenging spring conditions, shows the kind of concentrated acidity and mineral foundation that demands patience—this wine is built for 15+ years of development in ideal cellars. Hand-harvested and aged 18 months in used oak feuillettes in Raveneau's famously cold cellars, Blanchots exemplifies the philosophy that great Chablis doesn't need extraction or obvious power to command respect.

"From two parcels totaling .65 ha, where one was recently pulled up while the second parcel of 80+ year old vines is still productive. Here too there is a plethora of classic Chablis elements, and in particular oyster shell, along with more floral and spice wisps that contribute to the sense of elegance. As is typically the case, the mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is finer than that of the Valmur though without the same power and muscle before culminating in a bone-dry and firmly austere finale that is also very tightly wound. This will need to develop more depth with time in bottle but the Raveneau Blanchot has an impeccable track record in that regard."

"The 2023 Chablis Blanchots Grand Cru takes a little time to cohere its crushed stone, Granny Smith and sea spray scents in the glass. This has wonderful definition. The palate is beautifully balanced with a killer line of acidity. It is tensile, focused and lightly spiced, with just a hint of white tea toward the finish. This is a sublime Blanchot that should age for 20 to 30 years in bottle." —Neal Martin

"Informed by the estate’s oldest vines, planted in the 1930s and yielding small, concentrated grapes, Raveneau’s 2023 Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot has turned out very well. Located at the top of the lieu-dit, where the soils are shallower and defined by the early morning sun that lasts until late afternoon, it offers aromas of pear, orange zest, beeswax and wheat toast. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping yet bright and precise, it is an attractive wine though somewhat less intense this year than the brilliant Valmur." —Kristaps Karklins

"A pronounced fruit aroma that hints at greengage plums and gooseberry, with a lemon-zest edge and a salty mineral tang. The wine does not lack substance, but the crisp freshness comes to the fore more than the extract – in the end, this has both density and weight, but it manages to be silky and elegant at the same time. The grapes are from 60ha of nearly century-old vines near the top of the slope in Blanchot, facing east, in a sunny but well-ventilated spot."

More about Raveneau

Undisputed greatest producer in Chablis. François established the domaine in 1948; his sons Bernard and Jean-Marie now run it. Raveneau pioneered barrel fermentation and extended lees contact in Chablis. Their Grand Cru holdings (Les Clos, Blanchots, Valmur) produce wines of mineral purity.
