Planted in the 1970s on a steep limestone slope overlooking Seneca Lake, Argetsinger Vineyard is one of the Finger Lakes’ crown jewels. In the hands of Ravines Wine Cellars, this site yields a dry Riesling that reads more like a cool-climate Grand Cru than a regional curiosity.

The 2020 vintage is precise and focused—driven by lemon oil, crushed stone, and a taut, saline core. No sweetness, no tricks—just acid, minerality, and structure, with a finish that hums rather than fades. Native yeast fermentation and gentle handling in neutral barrels let the site speak without interference.

This is Riesling with serious posture. A wine that proves the Finger Lakes can produce whites with the same nerve and nuance as the Mosel or Wachau.

"The 2020 Dry Riesling Argetsinger Vineyard has just three grams of sugar, plus 8.2 grams of total acidity and 13.4% alcohol. This is another $14 per bottle over the regular Dry Riesling, but it is the better wine. It is deeper, more intense and more likely to age well. It also has the expression of fruit that the regular Dry Riesling lacks. Despite the different balance between sugar and acidity, this remains nicely balanced too, not shrill at all. Right now, this looks like one of the best I've seen in the brand. It drinks nicely today, but it should easily last for another 10 years, probably more. It's a beauty right now. Let's also hope it improves and gains anticipated nuance over the next couple of years. I'm leaning up on it today." -Robert Parker
