Traditional Barbaresco from Starderi—one of Neive's most prestigious crus, a steep hillside with southwest exposure. The Fenocchio family has farmed in Barbaresco since the early 1800s. Renato worked as cellar master elsewhere until 1993, when he and wife Milva purchased land in Starderi and founded their own estate. First bottling: 2000 vintage (1,349 bottles). Now 11 hectares across Neive, Barbaresco, and Treiso. Native yeast fermentation 10-15 days, aged 19-21 months in 5,000-liter Slavonian botti. Organic practices.

Kerin O'Keefe

91 points

"Aromas of red berry, baking spice and botanical herb form the nose along with whiffs of wild rose. The palate isn't quite as expressive, offering suggestions of dried cherry, mocha and saline before a star anise close. Taut tannins provide support. Drink through 2028." —Kerin O'Keefe
