Thierry Germain of Roches Neuves is one of the Loire’s most visionary winemakers, crafting biodynamic wines that capture the purity and energy of Saumur’s limestone-rich soils. Clos Romans is his crown jewel, sourced from a walled, single-vineyard site with fossilized limestone that lends extraordinary minerality. The 2019 vintage, shaped by a warm but balanced growing season, delivers a Chenin Blanc of remarkable intensity, depth, and longevity.

Golden apple, ripe pear, and citrus zest give way to layers of wet stone, white flowers, and subtle beeswax. The palate is taut yet expansive, with electric acidity cutting through the wine’s depth and texture. While some Saumur Blancs lean into roundness, Clos Romans remains precise and mineral-driven, unfolding with a saline-tinged, endlessly long finish.

This is a Chenin Blanc built for aging, but its balance makes it stunning even in its youth. A natural match for shellfish, creamy poultry dishes, or aged Comté, this is Loire white wine at its most complex and compelling.
