Younger vines (planted 1997), lighter soils, lower elevation—Salici represents a distinctly different Sauvignon expression within Gnemiz's portfolio. Where Peri emphasizes mineral complexity and structural presence, Salici prioritizes brightness and aromatic finesse. The lighter soil composition on the lower Rosazzo hill aspect creates faster drainage, moderate vigor, and conditions favoring brighter, crisper aromatic expression with lower alcohol potential. The 2024 vintage's September rainfall variability would have been managed well by lighter soils with superior drainage, potentially preserving natural acidity better than the heavier marl of other parcels. Gnemiz's approach to Salici mirrors Peri's restrained philosophy: whole-cluster pressing, used barrel and wooden vat fermentation, zero malolactic fermentation, zero batonnage, extended wood aging, unfined and unfiltered, minimal sulfite. But the vineyard's terroir—younger vines, lighter soils, lower elevation—draws a distinctly different wine. This Sauvignon sings brightness and freshness, emphasizing aromatics and textural subtlety over weight and minerality. The comparison between Peri (old vines, marl, complexity) and Salici (younger vines, light soils, brightness) demonstrates how terrain itself creates distinct expressions from identical winemaking philosophy.

Ronco del Gnemiz sits atop Rosazzo hill in Friuli's Colli Orientali, where Serena Palazzolo and her sons (with winemaker Christian Patat) farm organically on Ponca sandstone soils. White wines with bright acidity, carefully oaked reds in the Bordeaux style, all marked by mineral intensity. The vineyard is 60 years old, yields are kept low, and the wines can age for three to five years. This is northern Italian precision.
