On Wednesday, May 7, we're excited to welcome Franco Massolino, co-owner and winemaker of Massolino, to the mezzanine for a seminar on this amazing corner of Piemonte. Massolino is one of our favorite go-to producers in Serralunga. It's a traditionalist estate that focuses on producing very refined wines from the very special terroirs that slope down westward from the village, the true heart of Serralunga. Their range is excellent, but they also make tiny quantities from one site in Castiglione.
The first wine cellar was built by Giuseppe, son of the founder Giovanni, who, together with his sister Angela, extended their holdings to include better sites. Giuseppe was also one of the founders of the Consortium for the Defence of Barolo and Barbaresco in 1934. Three of Giuseppe's children, Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, followed in their father’s footsteps, expanding the estate with the purchase of cru vineyards: Margheria, Parafada, and Vigna Rionda. In the 1990s, Franco and Roberto, both oenologists, joined the family estate as well. Today, Franco is involved in all aspects of the growing, winemaking and business.
We will taste the estate's Barbera, Barbaresco, and several single-vineyard Barolo wines together with Franco. The cost of this seminar is $40 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Seating is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available only to attendees. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Wednesday, May 7 for this special evening.
