Stéphane Bernaudeau is not interested in volume—only clarity. Working biodynamically in tiny parcels near Martigné-Briand (once part of the Coulée de Serrant appellation), he produces some of the Loire’s most sought-after Chenin Blancs, defined by energy, patience, and zero compromise.

Les Coqueries is a cooler, more linear counterpoint to his better-known Les Nourrissons. From shallow, schist-rich soils and farmed with obsessive care, the 2020 vintage is piercing and pure—Chenin in high-definition. Native yeast, long lees aging, no new oak, and minimal sulfur mean the wine is fully shaped by place and time, not hand.

It moves with grip and brightness, not weight. The acidity hums beneath the surface, and the wine opens slowly—more mineral than fruit, more breath than voice. This isn’t Chenin that wants to please. It wants to hold.
