Les Ongles is Stéphane Bernaudeau’s entry point, but there's nothing “basic” about it. Sourced from schist and volcanic soils in Anjou and farmed biodynamically with obsessive care, the 2022 vintage shows why Bernaudeau is one of the most quietly revered names in natural wine. It’s Chenin as energy—unfined, unfiltered, with minimal sulfur, yet crystal-clear in its intent.

The nose is subtle but deep—quince, yellow apple, wet stone, and a faint herbal lift. On the palate, it’s simultaneously waxy and razor-sharp, with that telltale tension Chenin does so well: richness without weight, acidity without sharpness. There's a saline, mineral drive running through the core, and a finish that hums with quiet intensity.

Serve it with scallops, aged goat cheese, or nothing but your full attention. For those who love wines that speak softly but carry real presence—Les Ongles is a benchmark. Think Richard Leroy with gentler edges, or Ganevat gone Loire.

Focus On: Burgundy

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
