Ultramarine, Blanc de Noir Heintz Vyd, 2020
is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Heintz Vineyard, perched on the Sonoma Coast, is typically associated with rich, old-vine Chardonnay. But in the hands of Michael Cruse, its cool-climate Pinot Noir becomes the foundation for a blanc de noirs that is both bold and precise. Made using traditional Champagne methods—barrel fermentation, bottle fermentation, aging under cork, and zero dosage—this is a wine with depth, nerve, and place-driven soul.
The 2020 vintage opens with aromas of red apple skin, crushed herbs, dried flowers, and baked pear, followed by a palate that’s textural and dry, with chalky minerality and fine, persistent bubbles. There's a savory edge—think brioche, spice, and a whisper of earthy Pinot grip—but it’s held in perfect tension by bright acidity and coastal freshness.
This is a wine that sits at the intersection of grower Champagne and California Pinot—ideal for pairing with food (duck, mushroom tarts, aged cheese) or sipping slowly as it evolves in the glass.
