The more Valtellina wines we taste, the more excited we get about this hidden gem in the North of Italy. We're thrilled to be welcoming Marco Fay of Sandro Fay to the mezzanine on Thursday, February 20 for a masterclass on the Valtellina region and his family's wonderful wines.
In 1971, Sandro Fay embarked on the journey of revitalizing his family's modest vineyard in San Giacomo di Teglio, nestled within the Valtellina Superiore DOCG region. By 1973, Fay had formally established Azienda Agricola Fay and embarked on a gradual expansion of the vineyard, integrating additional parcels of land meticulously chosen for their diverse soil compositions and altitudes ranging from 350 meters to 900 meters on steep mountain slopes.
Sandro's son Marco, who runs the winery with his sister Elena, Marco, studied oenology in Trentino and honed his skills in Barolo. Marco will guide us through his lineup of single-vineyard wines centered around the Chiavennasca (also known as Nebbiolo) variety. Seating is very limited for this exclusive seminar. The cost of this seminar is $40 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. We hope you can join us on Thursday, February 20 at 6pm on the mezzanine for this very special event.
Today, Peyrassol is known as a Provençal estate producing a wide range of delicious wines, mostly rosés. They are staples on our shelves during the warmer months, and with good reason — great rosé can be found all over the globe, but its birthplace is in Provence.
After what feels like the longest winter and rainiest spring ever, it's finally rosé season—and I was delighted to see the Wall Street Journal's Lettie Teague dedicate last week's column to the incredible arsenal of pink wines made right here in the United States.
Those of you who are Oregon collectors need little introduction to 00 Wines. This project of Chris and Kathryn Hermann is in the 99th percentile when it comes to critical acclaim in the Willamette Valley. This is the extremely serious, buttoned-up side of this region, the side that convinced the top names in Burgundy to buy land here while they still could.
