If you're fired up for a summer of wine education, check out our six-class passes, saving you 20% and guaranteeing your spot at every class listed below!
Summer classes are on Mondays unless otherwise noted, beginning at 6pm on our mezzanine. Most classes run approximately 90 minutes.
Difficulty levels (see our FAQ for more info):
Wine 101 means no prior knowledge of the subject matter is assumed. Topic-specific terms and concepts will be introduced.
Deep Dive means the instructor will get a little more geeky on a more specific topic than in a Wine 101 class. Higher-level terms and concepts will be used and explained.
Masterclass means the instructor, usually a visiting guest from a winery or wine brand, is fully immersed in the topic at hand and has been encouraged to nerd out. But our classes have lively Q&A, and it's always ok to ask instructors to explain a concept or define a term––that's what Flatiron Wine School is for!

Summer Session: July-August
Monday, July 15: How to Create Your Perfect Home Bar (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Whether you’re a cocktail maven or you're just beginning a spirited journey, there are some key essentials you'll need to fashion your own personal home bar. In this class, Annie will discuss what tools are necessary, the primary base spirits, popular (and nerdy) liqueurs, vermouths, bitters, syrups, tinctures, techniques, and more.
Annie, a Certified Specialist of Spirits, will explore the history and techniques of distillation and mixology, the four core cocktail categories, and share five different samples of delicious libations to help you confirm your cocktail cravings and give you the confidence to explore and experiment on your own. Whether you have a shoebox in your closet or a custom-built speakeasy in your basement, Annie will cover everything you need to create your perfect home bar.
Taught by Flatiron's own Annie Edgerton, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, July 15 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Products tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.
Monday, July 22: Blind Tasting Challenge: Deconstructing Winemaking (taught by Julia Burke, DWSET)
Difficulty level: Deep Dive
Blind tasting is a critical skill for evaluating wine as objectively as possible, identifying your preferences in a neutral setting, and clarifying your wine observations. But when Julia teaches blind tasting classes, she's found that winemaking––oak, lees, whole cluster, and other techniques––can often trip people up, when it should be an indispensable set of clues! These elements get a lot of attention, but are often misunderstood or misidentified, often due to stereotypes and ambient factors such as wine temperature and age. Luckily, a little insider info can unlock these mysteries. Julia will take you "under the hood" to help decode the wines in front of you and analyze their quality and the effectiveness of the techniques at play. You'll walk away with the skills to become a better taster, and maybe even a new favorite wine!
Taught by Flatiron's own Julia Burke, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, July 22 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Products tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Get tickets now.
Monday, July 29: The World's Oldest Vines (taught by Julia Burke, DWSET)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Wine lovers can't get enough of old vines––gnarly, romantic representations of the essence of terroir. But what does that mean? Old vines don't have a universally-accepted definition, or even a common definition within the wine trade. So what makes a vine old, anyway?
Why are old vines special? Are they harder to farm? Do they make better wine? And which regions have the best examples? In this class, we'll look at wines made from vines that outlive the typical "old vine" standard, unpack some terminology, and drink some awesome wine.
Taught by Flatiron's own Julia Burke, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, July 29 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Products tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Get tickets now.
Monday, August 5: What's the Deal with Skin Contact? (taught by Ren Peir, WSET3)
Difficulty level: Deep Dive
What is a skin-contact wine? Is it the same or different from an orange wine? In this class, Ren will dive deep into the types of skin contact wines, their origins and history, and differences in winemaking techniques. Then, she'll pour her favorite skin contact whites for the summer and fall.
Taught by Flatiron's own Ren Peir, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, August 5 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Products tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Get tickets now.
Monday, August 12: Champagne Deep Dive (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
Back by popular demand! Annie always says that if she could only drink ONE wine for the rest of her life, it would be Champagne. Yes, she’s a tiny bit bougie, but she also knows that’s cheating, because the deep matrix of Champagne supplies endless possibilities. The grape varieties—alone and blended—the sub-regions, dosage, lees aging, oak use, vintage/non-vintage, house/grower style… some say Champagne is so complex it can take a lifetime to master, but what a journey that would be. (Not to mention the fact that Champagne might be the best wine to pair with literally any food.) In this class, Annie will go deep with five amazing Champagnes, highlighting the history, processes, and diversity of her favorite wine.
This class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, August 12 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Get tickets now.
Monday, August 19: Chill Out: The Best Summer Reds (taught by Ren Peir, WSET3)
Difficulty level: Wine 101
The old saying goes: Never drink red wine with fish, and don't you DARE put the red in the fridge (or something like that). Well, we all know neither of these constraints is true; in fact, chilled reds are becoming insanely popular and in-demand at bars and restaurants. In this class, Ren will take you through the best red wines to put a lil' chill on—including some surprises!
Taught by Flatiron's own Ren Peir, this class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, August 19 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines tasted in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Get tickets now.
