Ulli Stein's Fan-Favorite Rosé and Rosecco Are Back...For Now!

Stylized image of Ulli Stein Rose bottles

Every year, we eagerly await the arrival of Ulli Stein’s stunningly delicious Rosés. These crisp, high-toned, pure-mineral wines are the embodiment of refreshment, and we’re thrilled they’ve landed just in time for the holiday weekend!

Longtime readers will know Ulli’s story well. Based in the village of Sankt Aldegund in the heart of the Mosel Terrassen, Ulli spent decades laboring in near-obscurity, coaxing gloriously terroir-transparent Rieslings and Pinot Noirs from his dramatically steep, slate-rich parcels. Today, he stands as a leader of Germany’s wine renaissance, with cuvées that are sought out and collected around the world.

Though he’s still best known for his Rieslings (especially the iconic Palmberg and Alfer Holle), his rosés offer sheer joy in a bottle and a perfect entry point to the insatiable energy and style that defines Ulli’s wines.

Both rosés — still and sparkling — are about 90% Pinot Noir, which is sourced from younger vines on the terraces. The remainder of the blend comprises the rare Mosel-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a splash of Sangiovese. Rosé trocken is fermented and aged in stainless steel for maximum freshness and delivers loads of crunchy, tart berry fruit and cooling mineral cut. At a breezy, bone-dry 11.5% alcohol, it’s the perfect bottle for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The Rosé Secco, one of Ulli’s most unique creations, undergoes secondary fermentation in stainless steel tanks, yielding a delicately fizzy texture. It bursts with bright red fruit and zingy mineral energy, delivering the same thirst-quenching refreshment but with an irresistible sparkle — at the same easygoing 11.5% abv.

After decades of backbreaking vineyard work, Ulli is inching closer to retirement. We’ll be buying as much of his wine as we can until he decides to close up shop—and we strongly encourage you to enjoy the work of this Mosel master while you still can. Quantities are limited and all requests must be confirmed.
