Momo is the accessible way into one of Marlborough's most committed farming operations: Seresin Estate, the region's largest Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyard, where horses do the vineyard work. The name means "offspring" in Māori, and the label grew out of Seresin itself. The house builds Momo on organic fruit from its own Raupo Creek vineyard plus a small number of growers, and keeps the cellar work minimal. The founding story is a good one: Michael Seresin was working as a cinematographer in Italy when he fell for Marlborough, and the winery he built became one of New Zealand's first organic estates. Chief Winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington, who came back to the team in 2018, now runs the cellar. A bit of trivia to take to the table: the Māori name for the region, "Kei puta te Wairau," means "the place with the hole in the cloud," after the shape of the valley. That fits a place with long sunshine hours, a cool growing season and little rain. If you want to know how your Sauvignon Blanc is farmed, this is the one to grab.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Warm goat cheese salad with fresh herbs; grilled prawns with lime and chili; Thai green curry mussels; snapper ceviche; roasted asparagus with lemon and shaved Parmesan.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc profile: passion fruit, grapefruit and lime zest with fresh-cut grass and a green, herbal edge. Light-bodied and dry, with the bright, mouthwatering acidity the region's cool, sunny climate is known for, it finishes crisp and clean. Think of it as a riper, more tropical cousin of Sancerre.
