Benjamin Leroux, Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus, 2022 is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.

“Les Charmes Dessus” is the crown of the Charmes vineyard—literally the upper slope, with thinner soils, better drainage, and a finer touch than the richer lower sections. In the hands of Benjamin Leroux, it becomes Meursault with both generosity and precision, showing off the site’s depth without ever losing balance.

The 2022 vintage brings ripe, golden fruit—lemon curd, white peach, toasted almond—wrapped around a mineral core and lifted by a natural sense of freshness. There’s richness, sure, but also energy, with a subtle grip and long, saline finish that shows off Leroux’s exacting, low-intervention style.

Aged in mostly neutral oak with a light touch on lees, this is Meursault that leans into texture over flash. It’s complex but composed, with real aging potential—but also a ton of pleasure right now if given a decant.

Perfect with buttery shellfish, roast chicken, or simply poured slowly on a night when only great white Burgundy will do.

Benjamin Leroux only wants the best—the best grapes, from the best locations, in the best winemaking region on Earth. His wines range from stellar (and affordable) Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge all the way up to some of the finest Grand Cru wines Burgundy has to offer.

At the time of his domaine’s founding, in 2007, land in the Côte d’Or fetched prices to the tune of millions of euros—and prices have only gone up. Rather than spend a king’s ransom on vineyards, Ben prefers to purchase grapes from established growers, already intimately familiar with their particular parcels. The majority are farmed either organically or biodynamically, all with a goal of sustainability in mind.

He claims we will never see an estate-bottled wine from him. Why should he expect grapes grown on land he owns to be superior to grapes farmed by his friends and neighbors? His particular skill is in the cellar—in fact, he’s been training in the field of winemaking since the tender age of 13, when he enrolled in Beaune’s Lycée Viticole.

His pursuit of knowledge led him to stints in Bordeaux, Oregon, and New Zealand, and a long-term position as general manager at Pommard’s Comte Armand. His decades-long career in winemaking has provided all of the knowledge necessary to focus on the cellar—and the ability to establish relationships with only the finest grape growers. You might say that he’s cherry-picking Burgundy’s best...grapes.

"Charmes is a new bottling for Leroux; he formerly purchased Mazoyères, which was sometimes labelled as Charmes, but now he has a parcel of Aux Charmes and the fruit from Mazoyères. The new parcel this year has produced a wine with sweet black cherry fruit and notes of rose petals and liquorice. It is silkier and more supple than the Mazoyères, which is more structured. It was racked fairly early but is going back into barrel for a second winter before bottling. The wine will be approachable fairly soon after bottling and should age well for several decades."

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
everything you need to know about Bourgogne is just a click away!
