The classic-Malbec-zone bottling in the Altos las Hormigas terroir lineup. Lujan de Cuyo is Mendoza's historic Malbec heartland, and this comes from organic vineyards planted on limestone, a deliberate point of difference from the area's typical alluvial-and-clay soils that tend to make bolder, broader wines. That chalk gives finer tannins and lift. The 2023 was hand-harvested, gravity-fed into small concrete tanks, fermented with native yeasts, and aged 18 months in concrete pools and untoasted oak foudres, so it stays fruit-pure and elegant rather than heavy. An approachable, food-friendly entry into a serious terroir project.

Antonio Galloni

90 points

"The 2023 Malbec Terroir Organic hails from Luján de Cuyo. It opens with aromas of black and red fruit, a subtle trace of balsamic herbs and a hint of sun-kissed warmth. Succulent and plush with moderate freshness, the 2023 finishes with a faint leafy note and clingy texture, in line with the vintage." —Joaquín Hidalgo

Robert Parker

92 points

"The 2023 Malbec Terroir Luján de Cuyo offers an uncommonly energetic, high-toned expression of Lujan de Cuyo, opening with a charming nose of mixed berries, turned earth and fresh herbs. The palate is plush and succulent yet sleek and precise, finishing with a juicy, persistent and mouthwatering finish." —Matthew Luczy

More about Altos las Hormigas

In 1995, when everyone else was planting Cabernet Sauvignon, winemaker Alberto Antonini and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi bet everything on Malbec in Mendoza. They were right. Altos las Hormigas pioneered terroir-driven Malbec with biodynamic farming, minimal intervention, and deep knowledge of places like Altamira and Gualtallary. Antonini's global palate brings new ideas every vintage. These are unshowy, ambitious wines from people who actually understand what they're doing.
