Proof that Vinho Verde can be serious without giving up an ounce of its refreshment, and it does it at 11% alcohol. Vasco Croft farms biodynamically in the Lima Valley, the subregion where Loureiro rather than Alvarinho is the flagship grape, on deep granite soils sitting between roughly 50 and 100 meters above sea level, close enough to the Atlantic to taste it. The grapes are direct-pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, then held a couple of months on fine lees with no batonnage and no malolactic, which keeps the acidity nervy and the fruit taut. This is the bottle for when you want something bracing and low in alcohol that still rewards paying attention. Drink it young and cold.

Robert Parker

"The 2024 Loureiro showcases the house profile of whites with a notable absence of fruit—it is serious, austere, mineral and earthy with contained ripeness and alcohol and good freshness and acidity. It was produced with grapes from 16-year-old vines on deep granite soils at 50 and 100 meters of altitude, part of them very close to the sea. The direct pressing of the grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts at a slightly higher temperature and was kept two months with the fine lees but without bâtonnage. It didn't go through malolactic fermentation and has 11% alcohol, a pH of 3.2 and seven grams of acidity, with good balance. 28,680 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2025." —Luis Gutiérrez

Perfect Pairings

Oysters on the half shell, grilled sardines, garlic shrimp, salt cod, sushi, or a green salad with fresh goat cheese.

Tasting Profile

Pale and bright. Lime and orange zest, green apple, fennel and subtle herbs over a stony granitic core. Light-bodied with vibrant, linear acidity and a clean, saline finish.
