Domaine Albert Mann is easily one of the most iconic names in Alsace, a region that remains beloved by geeks but under the radar among many wine lovers. In fact, this is the first Alsace-focused masterclass we've featured on the Flatiron Wine School mezzanine! Joining us to go deep on Alsace is none other than Antoine Barthelmé, winemaker at Albert Mann. Antoine is son of Jacky Barthelmé, one of the two brothers at the helm of the domaine whose families have been winegrowers in the region since the 17th century. On Thursday, October 23, Antoine will present a masterclass on this fascinating region as we taste through his wonderful lineup of wines.
About Antoine:
Antoine realized his dream early – at just four years old, when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, his answer was simple: "A gardener!" His love for plants, soil, and nature has been his compass ever since. After classical scientific studies through his baccalaureate, he pursued viticulture at Beaune, followed by formative experiences that shaped his vision.
The final internship under Anne-Claude Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet, experience of winemaking and vineyard with Alphonse Mellot family in Sancerre, a year in New Zealand's Wanaka valley at Rippon Estate as a Cellar hand with Nick Mills, apprenticeship with the Derencourts Consultant in Bordeaux, and three years as Vineyard Manager at George Noellat's domaine in Vosne-Romanée.
Since late 2019, he has returned home, working alongside his father Jacky before his retirement. The 2020 vintage marked Antoine's full immersion into the domaine. His enthusiasm and energy drive him forward, while the years bring the perspective needed to meet each vintage's unique challenges.
The cost of this seminar is $40 and a $20 credit at the store will be extended to each guest for a future purchase. Seating is limited and special pricing on the featured wines will be made available to attendees only. We hope you can join us on the mezzanine at 6pm on Thursday, October 23 for this special evening.
