Professional Reviews

Burghound

BH 92
"A still somewhat restrained nose features notes of fresh red berries, plum, spice and violets. The medium-weight plus flavors possess a sleek and relatively precise mouthfeel before terminating in long, balanced and delicious if slightly strict finish where a touch of minerality adds lift. With 30 or so minutes of air, this nicely crafted and solidly complex effort drinks reasonably well though a few more years of cellaring should be beneficial."

Antonio Galloni

"The 2011 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru just feels a little flat-footed. It has a typical leafy bouquet, nicely defined but bereft of some horsepower, damp moss/undergrowth scents becoming more conspicuous with aeration. The palate is quite sharp and tart on the entry. This is certainly fresh but I wish there was more substance towards the finish. It is a Grand Cru after all. Tasted at 1243 Club in Beaune." -Neal Martin

Robert Parker

RP 89
"Quite pale in color for a grand cru, the Clos des Lambrays 2011 has a very spicy bouquet with touches of wild mint and damp woodland scents coming through with aeration. The palate is light and slightly fleshy: fresh strawberry and red cherry leading to a light, peppery finish. It does lacks some substance at the beginning, although aeration sees it gaining more intensity while retaining its delineation and focus." -Neal Martin

Decanter

D 94
"A wine that reveals an ample, outgoing and broad nose that embraces the more opulent side of the 2011 vintage, but also with pronounced whole-cluster fermentation notes of spice, sweet leather and earth. Mouth-filling and intense, it finishes moderately chewy with a firm texture, though its fresh acidity gives the wine a slightly airier feel than its weight would suggest."

Wine Spectator

WS 93
"The aromas are dominated by floral, vegetal and spice notes, followed by a beam of pure cherry. Turns deeper and more complex as the finish unleashes fruit, sandalwood and mineral flavors. Excellent length."

Burgundy has long been the world's most famous wine region. But, underneath all the prestige, this region can be hard to get to know.

While Burgundy offers many great trophies from top producers in well-known villages like Vosne Romanee and Puligny Montrachet, it also offers excellent values to anyone willing to explore beyond the famous names. Our collection– one of the largest in the U.S. – has plenty of both!

From the very basics of Burgundy's regions and wines to the specific terroirs of individual single vineyards--
